A break for the parents! June 27, 2003 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
My 8 months old loves the Teletubbies! We got her the Baby Einstein collection but she wasn't interested. She is a very active baby. She wants you to play with her all day long. My house has been a mess for many monthes. My husband has been living on chesse and ice cream and has to look for clothes for work from the clean clothes pile on the floor which is right next to the dirty pile. Ever since we got this video, I can leave her in her play pan and just let the tape roll! My little angel never gets tired of it. I play it for her twice a day and she still claps and laughs with the characters. We even have a Laa-Laa doll that we use to lull her to crawl from one side of the room to another. My house is now clean for my little crawler and my husband's cholestrol level is lower!
Made a Believer Out of Me! June 17, 2003 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I admit...I was skeptical to allow my daughter access to TV 'too soon', but one morning on PBS, she became enchanted by the Teletubbies, and it's been bliss ever since. We have quite a few Baby Einstein tapes and DVDs in our repertoire, but Teletubbies brought a new and different vantage point to my 11 & 1/2 month old's 'TV time'. The characters are colorful and silly (our favorite segment - adults and baby alike - is 'Secret Dance'...very amusing!) and I liked the fact that there is a segment from the creators of the Teletubbies geared toward curious parents (like me) who want to know more about what their kids are learning by watching. And there are bonus segments galore, which makes this a bargain in my eyes.We have since purchased some other Teletubbies DVDs ('Baby Animals' and 'Look!') and are equally pleased. It's nice to feel confident in adding this programming into our video library. Enjoy!
A Pleasant Surprise June 14, 2003 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Ok, ok, I admit it...I was skeptical at first of exposing my daughter to the Teletubbies. I wasn't too keen on TV too soon, but one morning, when she was about 10 months old, she responded so well to the Teletubbies on PBS, I knew that I needed to rethink my strategy a little. That being said, this particular DVD has become a household favorite. My husband and I (and now some of our friends and family) have been delighted by the segment entitled 'Secret Dance' (if it's on, we might as well find our own enjoyment where we can :) ), and our daughter (now 11 months old) really enjoys all the music and antics of the Tubbies. There are also bonus segments on the DVD, including a 30 minute bonus video called 'Go', so it's like several videos in one...terrific!I'm really pleased we found this for our daughter to enjoy, and I'm sure we'll have it memorized before too long! :)
Poorly Written, Poorly Executed, Poorly Produced June 9, 2003 4 out of 37 found this review helpful
"Teletubbies - Silly Songs and Funny Dances" is a movie that a suprising potential, but it has sadly not come close to realizing it. The title presents the viewer with a preview of what could be to come - silly songs and funny dances. But you, humble viewer, must be very disappointed after seeing this movie. The songs are from silly -- indeed, they lyrics are hardly insightful and only give a superficial look into these interesting teletubbie creatures. Furthermore, the melodies are only repetitve stanzas with no artistic insight. What could at first presented as a silly songs are in fact (when further dissected) shallow tunes that give that the replace viewers thirst for fun with a searing headache. But the second part of the DVD are funny dances. And yes, while this title might catch the humble viewer's attention, the hopes "funny dances" are dashed down. The choreography in the movie is absolutely despicable. One can see the strain on Tinky-Winky's face while he dances as he searches desperately for a more dancing fulfillment. Even Po is capable of better dancing. And secondly, the alleged funny dances hardly come close to being humorous. I personally did not laugh once as I watched the Teletubbies dance. Lastly, this movie was poorly produced. The sets of the movie are hardly believable, and take away from the film's credibility. And the cinematography is elementary when the movie itself offered so much artistic leeway in that area. Overall, this movie had promising beginnings, but they were all washed away as I, the humble viewer, watched this absolute wreck of a movie. This is not the kind of showing one would expect from the producers of "Teletubbies - Favorite Things" and "Teletubbies - Baby Animals."
We're watching it right now March 20, 2003 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
My 2 year old cannot get enough of the teletubbies. I only bought this dvd because PBS moved the show to a time before he wakes up in the morning. I don't care much for the DVD (too focused on girls not enough for my son to relate to). But my son is watching it for the second time today so I can't complain too much. I think the show is better than the DVD in being educational, not much in the regular program on this one that teaches anything which is why I like PBS programs to begin with!
