Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Valley Girl is, like--Omigod!--one of the most "tubular" teen comedies of the early 1980s. This movie launched Nicolas Cage's career, and it's easy to see why: Following his tiny role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Cage is perfectly cast as a Hollywood punk who instantly falls for Julie (the irresistible Deborah Foreman), a San Fernando "Valley Girl"--a brighter variant of the stereotype immortalized in Moon Unit Zappa's 1982 novelty song--who must choose between wild-boy Nic and her preening jock boyfriend (Mark Bowen). Fortunately, Julie knows what's right for her (even if her "Val" friends don't), and in refreshing defiance of teen-flick tradition, her post-hippie parents (Frederic Forrest, Colleen Camp) are supportively cool. With sincere humor, a lively soundtrack of '80s hits, and a time-capsule cruise of Hollywood landmarks, Valley Girl is both timeless and nostalgic, owing much of its lasting appeal to Martha Coolidge's sensitive direction. Fer sure, y'know, it definitely won't gag you with a spoon. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars A totally 80's movie   December 19, 2008
VALLEY GIRL is a neat comedy drama of a movie about a girl in the valley in L.A. County who falls head over heels for an outsider(Nicholas Cage) who is not from the valley and is like the complete opposite from Julie(Deborah Foreman) who nobody approves of, but Randy (Nicholas Cage) & Julie(Deborah Foreman)still make a great & cute couple, which proves to be the case when Julie decides to dump Randy later and reconciles with her ex-boyfriend Tommy(Mike Bowen)after Julie ends up giving into peer pressure from her friends.

VALLEY GIRL also had numerous popular hit songs from the 1980's in it too like "I Melt With You" by Modern English; "Electric Avenue" by Eddie Grant; "Don't Put Another Dime In The Jukebox" by The Flirts, "Who Can It Be Now" by Men-At-Work; "Girls Like Me" by Bonnie Hayes, etc.

As a matter of fact, VALLEY GIRL was the movie that made Nicholas Cage famous & launched his acting career.

VALLEY GIRL also has an intriguing nude scene when Suzi's boyfriend(Skip) walks in the house and into Suzi's bathroom upstairs seeing Suzi in the shower in full frontal nudity, snatch & all, just before Suzy's mothe Beth Brent(Lee Purcell)gets home & barges into Suzi's bedroom catching Skip(David Ensor) & Suzi(Michelle Meyrick) doing hubba hubba, but what I found kind of strange in this movie was Skip & Beth seemed to have been paying more attention to each other than Skip had been paying attention to Suzi, especially since Beth was obviously falling for Skip even though Beth was obviously way too old for Skip.

Additionally, I found it kind of odd why Julie's mother Sarah(Colleen Camp) never figured out that Julie's father Steve(Frederick Forest) was drug addict, especially since Sarah noticed at least several times that Steve was disorganized & distracted.

I also couldn't understand why Julie's girlfriends were so insisitent about wanting Julie to get back together with Tommy, since Julie's girlfriends all thought Randy was a fox, but then all of the sudden Julie's friends change their mind about Randy being compatible for Julie when Julie starts spending most of her time with Randy after getting over her break-up with Tommy, but I suspect that Julie's friends reason for being persistent about wanting Julie to reconcile with Tommy was probably due to the fact that they were probably getting jealous of Julie and Randy's relationship, since Julie stopped spending so much time with her friends when she started dating Randy along with the fact that Randy wasn't even from their high school or the valley, unlike Tommy, Julie, and her girlfriends, not to mention that Julie was obviously not even attracted to Tommy, especially whenever Tommy tried to make a pass at her, plus I can't see how Julie's friends could even stand Tommy for that matter either, especially since Tommy had tried getting into Loryn's(Liz Daily's) pants.

Fortunately, VALLEY GIRL has a happy ending to it when Julie decides to reconcile with Randy at the prom at the end of the money when Randy kicks Tommy's butt at the end of the movie just before Julie & Randy take off with the chauffer.
