Product Description On March 18th, 1963, 250,000 people assembled on the lawn of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. in what has been billed by many as, "the single most important event in the 20th century." Performances by Odetta, Joan Baez & Marian Anderson set the stage for speeches by A. Philip Randolph & Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and others. Table Of Contents: (1) The March On Washington (1963) - The 1963 March on Washington civil rights rally was one of the greatest events in American history and will forever be etched into the American consciousness. Doesn't live up to the hype (at all) April 10, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a mediocre (at best) documentary on the famous civil rights March On Washington, which took place on August 28th 1963 (not on March 13th as erroneously stated in the copy above and also on the DVD case). Other than partial clips of Joan Baez, Odetta and Marian Anderson's performances and A. Philip Randolph's speech, there is little to recommend about this film. Unless perchance you are interested in the fact that a group of people spent two days making 80,000 cheese sandwiches for the marchers (with plenty of film of this activity). You see Dr. King get introduced and you see him leave the stage, but not a single word do you hear uttered from his lips. There is not even a mention of, or reference to, John Lewis' controversial speech - and this in what purports to be a documentary. I could go on but I trust you get the picture.
This is also a DVDR, not a silver DVD, and the only seller of this less than noteworthy product is its manufacturer, Quality Information Publishers, who wrote the stirring promotional copy above.
Not recommended whatsoever.
