| Editorial Reviews:
Description Not only is Ritchie Blackmore one of the technically most accomplished guitarists in the world, he is also one of the most exceptional and uncompromising musicians. Following his extremely successful years with Deep Purple and Rainbow, he left all commercial considerations aside, founding Blackmores Night with his partner Candice Night and devoting himself single-mindedly to his greatest passion, the music of the Middle Ages. Since then the renaissance-infused magic of Blackmore's Night has captured the hearts and minds of fans and media around the globe. With such successful albums as Fires At Midnight, Ghost of a Rose, and Beyond The Sunset: The Romantic Collection now behind them and etched into history, the band is proud to present the brand new DVD, Castles & Dreams. This exciting visual project takes you to a beautifully filmed concert in a German castle and also contains numerous television performances, video clips, interviews and much more!

Breathtaking April 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Blackmore's Night -- Castles & Dreams When Ritchie Blakcmore decided to change his musical direction and to start performing medieval music, his fans went very doubtful. Yet again, Ritchie Blackmore and Blackmore's Night delivered a great recording (Shadow of The Moon) that definitely set the path to the success of the band. Understandably, Ritchie has lost some of the fans of his Hard Rock work, but on the other hand Blackmore's Night made new fans that simply fell in love with their music. I believe that most of Ritchie's fans remained his fans even after this change (I am one of those fans). First time that I heard Blackmore's Night was back in 1999 when I heard Shadow of the Moon record. Instantly, I saw myself as a fan of this music. Castle's and Dreams DVD is a first DVD released by Blackmore's Night. The simplest way to describe it is "BREATHTAKING". I have been fan of Ritchie Blackmore for more then 20 years. I have never seen him happier in his musical carrier than these last 12 years. The band is very tight. The band members understand each other so well. You could notice on all of them that they are having lot of fun performing on stage. The set list is great. There are few songs included in the set list from Deep Purple era as well. The version of the "Soldier of Fortune is amazing". Candice Night is adorable and her voice is so soft and clear. Remember, no other vocalist has ever been around Ritchie Blackmore for this long. For the fans of his harder work, Ritchie pulls his Fender Electric Guitar in four songs, confirming that he is still one of the greatest guitarists of Rock. This DVD contains two discs, 1st one being the concert in Germany with the 2nd disc bringing very rich bonus material with interviews with Ritchie and Candice and other band members. I have to say that there is some sort of magic in the songs of Blackmore's Night that hypnotizes the audience taking them back on time to the days of the everlasting romance. If you are a fan of Ritchie Blackmore than this DVD is a must have. And if you are just a fan of a good music than this DVD will not let you down. Perfect sound, perfect picture and all of the bonus material makes this DVD well worth the money. Trust me, you will not regret. Just insert it on your DVD player and let the magic takes you on the trip back on time....
Very good! January 30, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pros: Excellent show, real festive mood, good selection of songs, masterly performance. Whole extra DVD with bonus features: acoustics, videos, documentaries, etc. Fine booklet with photos and relevant info. And all this practically for the price of one DVD!
Cons: Only moderate quality of video on disk 1 (some documentaries on disk 2 are shot better!). The audio tracks on disk 1 also leave much to be desired in terms of sound recording in 2004.
But since some technical imperfections of the disks are more than compensated for by magnificent show itself, the verdict is: go get it!
Refreshing, awakening my inner spirit September 8, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this DVD set. I find their music and their musical beliefs to be refreshing and enlightening. A journey through the past with a spin on the present. If you like Blackmore's night this is a must have. I will also purchase the new DVD they have coming up this fall.
Great DVD August 24, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was hesitant to order this one.. I'd heard from other reviewers that the sound quality depended on your TV.. I have had no problem with this, and my TV is pretty old.. The sound quality is much better then any of the live clips on youtube.. and some of the extra's are well worth it.. (Check out the video for The Hanging Tree) Any one who is a fan of Blackmore's Night will love it.. I'm hoping that seeing them live this October will be just as fantastic!
Definitely not for ALL Blackmore fans but... August 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
...still an interesting piece of music. I was fortunate enough to see Blackmore's Night at Castle Waldeck/Germany back in 2001. A rare starlit summer night (and if you knew mid Germany's weather you would understand HOW rare this night really was) with Blackmore and company giving us a journey back into medieval ages. Many people dressed in medieval gowns and thus adding to the special atmosphere of the moment. One has to admit that Mrs Candice Night and her elegant and even funny way of guiding the audience through the night built a sharp contrast to Ritchie's usual "Lord of Darkness"-image. A night I will never forget, and a night that this DVD-release manages to revive for me now. Sound (DTS) could not be better. Enjoy!!
