Product Description
MUPPETS FROM SPACE (DVD/P&S/DD5.1/DSS/ENG-SUB)

Amazon.com
The film that answers the immortal question: what species is Gonzo? Kermit the Frog's curly-nosed friend feels alone in the world. When his breakfast cereal starts spelling out questions and he hears voices, Gonzo is convinced he must be from outer space, and his alien brothers are coming to earth. Of course, there are evil scientists (led by Jeffrey Tambor) who kidnap Gonzo to learn his secrets (like "What do you do with a nose like that?"). The usual brand of merriment from the gang is in good order, especially in the opening scene when the Muppets start the morning under one roof. It's not as memorable as earlier films, but nevertheless the joy and sly humor will warm most souls age 5 and up. Human cameos include Ray Liotta, Rob Schneider, Josh Charles, Andie MacDowell, David Arquette, and F. Murray Abraham (as Noah, no less). --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars Even this vegan mom thinks it's a hoot   January 3, 2010

I grew up watching "The Muppet Show" weekly, so I rushed out to watch "Muppets from Space" when it was released in 1999. (I think I saw it at the local drive-in.) This New Year's Eve, we decided to have a family movie marathon but forgot to prepare for it. Rather than watch our old DVDs, we hooked a laptop to the TV and streamed this movie from one of the DVD-rental sites.

Set to funk music, this family flick follows Gonzo's quest to figure out who he is and find his long-lost family -- providing an opportunity for parents and veg kids to discuss what it's like to be different. A few of the snappy one-liners will also spark discussion, if you catch them. Is it funny to call Miss Piggy "bacon," you might ask. And what does Gonzo mean when he jokes about his species going extinct?

The movie contains a few references to/ depictions of meat. When the stove breaks, for example, the Muppets are served bologna for breakfast, a food that all but Rizzo (the rat) refuse. Still, there's nothing in this movie that's offensive enough for me to forgo the sheer fun of watching it.

Hello..
After looking everywhere for this movie I was giving up. I went online to Amazon and found it. WHY didn't I go there first I would have saved myself lots of frustration! My grandson loves it and so do I.

Thanks for making our life happy!

4 out of 5 stars funny   November 30, 2009

Well, this is no "Muppets Take Manhattan" or "Great Muppet Caper" but for a muppet film made after the year 2000 it's pretty decent. Gonzo is from space. What. A. Surprise. Quite a few laughs and totally family friendly. If you love the muppets then you have to get it, just because it's a muppet film.

4 out of 5 stars Fun for any age group   May 20, 2009

While in some ways, the Muppets franchise has gone downhill since the untimely passing of the great Jim Henson, Muppets From Space is a truly enjoyable film. I've always been of the opinion that a character as unique and entertaining as Gonzo should have more screen time. The film centers around Gonzo and his search for his identity. Along the way, Miss Piggy gets a job at a local television station (though her position isn't as glamorous as she might like), Rizzo does time as a lab rat, and we gain insight into the ongoing experiments of Muppet Labs (with hilarious results). Throw in a very funny cameo by a new character (Dr. Van Neuter) and a sublime performance by Jeffrey Tambor, and Muppets from Space is a movie that everyone is sure to enjoy, whether you are a fan of the Muppets from decades ago, or a child who has never seen the show or any of the classic movies.
