| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Although it featured songs by Debbie Harry, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Cheap Trick, and Earth, Wind & Fire, Rock and Rule (Canada, 1983) never received a general US release. Set in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by mutants, the underdeveloped story centers on the rock star Mok and his efforts to summon a demon from another dimension. Only the voice of aspiring singer Angel can cross the dimensional barrier and free the monster. Mok pursues Angel through series of chases and concerts that produce complications involving her true love/singing partner Omar and his band. Clive Smith's direction is simply inept: the story plods along listlessly; the characters change motivation on a dime; the crude CG special effects are squandered in minor scenes, rather than used to punch up the climax. Rock and Rule reflects the confusion of the animation industry in the early '80s. Yellow Submarine and Fritz the Cat had proved there was an audience for hip, edgy animated features. But nobody could make a good one, and a series of bombs caused animation to be labeled box-office poison. More than 20 years later, Rock and Rule holds a curiosity value for fans of old rock, but it's not a memorable film. (Rated PG: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity, alcohol, drug, and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon
Product Description In this acclaimed, animated rock and roll feature, Angel, a member of a punk rock band in the apocalyptic future, is kidnapped by Mok, a legendary super rocker. Obsessed with an evil experiment, Mok plans to use Angel s voice to summon a demon from another dimension. The rest of the band follow Mok to Nuke York in an attempt to rescue her and then the ultimate battle of good vs. evil begins.

Exceptional Animation From The 80's July 16, 2008 Anyone finding themselves as fans of underground animation cult hits from the early 70's and 80's (Ralph Bakshi's line of work, Fantastic Planet and Heavy Metal to name a few) will enjoy this rare gem of rock opera animation goodness. While the film is rather short, you are given extras in this dvd collection which include behind the scenes of Rock N Rule and the 23 min short film which inspired the creation of film "Daniel mouse and the devil" which itself is not a bad view.
Rock & Rule! April 19, 2008 When I first saw this on Showtime, I thought it was amazing. Now, seeing it so many years later, in widescreen, fully-restored, it's even better! The music is awesome, the story is imaginative, and I am so glad that it has been brought back!
Rock & Rule DVD February 20, 2008 I have been looking for this DVD for awhile and was happy to find this at Amazon. I have made several purchases before from Amazon and have been very satisfied. I highly recommend this site for any item that a person wishes to buy. The prices and shipping costs are very reasonable and have always received my items quickly and in top condition.
Thank You.. a loyal customer,

Amazing and Trippy February 13, 2008 this is an absolutely amazing work of art. the animation is very well done for its time and has a very epic story line. brought back some memories from my childhood. it says its rated PG but it does have some adult references in it. one of the greatest cult classic movies of all time. very trippy.
A Great Film! Will some of the soundtrack ever see the day of light ?!? March 18, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great movie and due to copyrights on the soundtrack I assume that's why it took this film forever to come back in print on any format. The vhs/beta tapes were released shortly after the film's theatrical release and then for the next 20 plus years was not rereleased. Yet, to this day the soundtrack has never been available on record, cassette or compact disc. Sure, since then some of the tracks have seen the light of day. You can find the cheap trick songs on a box set. The Lou Reed (Mok songs) are on some odd lou reed collections. But, strangly some other great tracks to this day have never seen light anywhere. Like why has dance, dance, dance by Earth Wind and Fire is still not available. These guys only released 20 studio albums and dozens of live albums and a few best of's and some box sets yet this lost gem by Earth Wind and Fire seems to have slipped through the cracks of media format other than the actual movie formats.
