The Naked Jungle October 27, 2009 John Pyle (Oklahoma) Another great Heston movie of the period. Good action and acting. I love the movie.
great old movie October 22, 2009 R. Speck (Canton, GA) I remember watching this movie as a kid. I still love it. Charlton Heston is young and handsome, Eleanor Parker is at her haughty best and true love wins. It doesn't get any better.
Great Classic Film June 22, 2009 Laura M. Haefner (Torrington CT USA) Naked Jungle (1954) [VHS] What a great classic film. Charleton Heston and Eleanor Parker are electrifying together. Definitely a "keeper".
Better than a Bite in the Eye from a Marabunta April 11, 2009 Lawrence Curcio (West View, Pennsylvania United States) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
My parents took me to see this movie when I was six years old. For most of my life, I had vague recollections of people being horrifically devoured by ants in it, and I always wondered why my parents would want to see such a movie, much less take me along. So one day I searched around and found the movie as well as the short story that goes with it.
After all those years, the flick was a disappointment. It's scary only to six-year-olds. As to the plot... it was very fifties, an era when psychiatry was taken seriously, and all human behavior was readily explainable as repressed homosexuality (which was known to cause any sort of behavior).
My mother was undoubtedly the person who wanted to see Naked Jungle. She adored.. uh... strong male leads, and Charlton Heston is doing his very best Marlon Brando imitation in this one - an effort that nevertheless falls short. (Heston couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.)
The story on which the film is based, Leningen Versus the Ants, is very nice. Read that and skip this nonsense. It's only slightly better than a bite in the eye from a Marabunta.
Interesting Is it scfi? October 26, 2008 Peter J. Evans (NSW Aust) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Charlton Heston's early days. Drama for the most part BUT having this magnificant ScFi type ending. The whole film hangs on the ending.
It shows how special effects can tell the story not be it.
On the whole an "interesting film".
