Undercover cop Jeffrey Cole is doing "God's" work, and he is losing his religion. God is Dwayne Gittens, whose neighborhood benevolence masks his thriving Cincinnati (a refreshing change of scenery) drug trade. Cole, a rookie fresh out of the Academy is "ready for the big score" and is charged by his mentor to "bring God and his angels down for good." But the higher Cole rises in Gittens's organization, the deeper he gets. Omar Epps redeems himself after The Mod Squad with a gripping and empathetic performance as the increasingly conflicted Cole. After scoring as the comic relief in Deep Blue Sea, LL Cool J gets down to business as Gittens, the master of his domain who rules with an iron hand (and, in one particularly nasty sequence, a pool cue), but is also capable of compassion and charity. As Cole's concerned superior, Stanley Tucci avoids the bluster usually associated with this stock character. Pam Grier, whose career should have gotten a Viagralike pop from Jackie Brown, makes the most out of her thankless role as a fellow officer who finds herself in a climactic standoff with Cole. In Too Deep briefly loses its focus after Cole is pulled from the case. He takes photography classes and becomes involved with a model (Nia Long). Good Movie September 14, 2008
In Too Deep is a urban drama that was overlooked in 1999. Omar Epps is good in the lead role a J. Reid/Jeffery Cole an undercover cop who begins to lose his mind while trying to get close to God ( a drug lord) played very effectively by LL Cool in one of his best performances ever. The direction and cinematography are very good and the film features cameos from rappers Nas, Stickay Fingaz and Jeramine Dupri. While the film isn't as good as Deep Cover it's still worth a look.

Oh please! This is one of the worst movies I've seen. *In Too Deep* is no different then an episode of *Homicide*. Shave off 30 minutes and viola, you got an episode.
However, it was still watchable. J. Reid (Epps) is a rookie cop who goes undercover. His goal is to bring down God (LL Cool J) and his "angels". By doing this, he performs the biggest drug bust ever.
However, what ruined the whole thing was that J. Reid was repeatedly asked if he was a cop. J. Reid never once answered this question. God and his gang just let him join. Oh please!
I know! I know! Suspension of disbelief. But still! It wasn't working for me.

This is my all time favorite movie. J Reed..damn I could not play his part. An undercover cop playing a drug dealer to bring down a huge drug lord. He befriended "God" and took him down. It was really hard for him to do because they had built such a strong bond. This movie was really good though,. LL Cool J and Omar Epps played their roles really well.

This movie was ill omar is a great actor as for ll he's a better actor than rapper. I liked this movie alot, i like how omar works his way up to a high organization of gagsters and brings them down, although omar gets caught up in the movie b/c he starts to wonder what he's doin as a po po..Definitly go buy don't rent...

I am an 18 year old white male from a high-class family.. I loved this movie.. The performance of Omar and ll cool j is just amazing.. i would recommend this movie to anyone who likes suspense movies and doesnt mind a movie about black suburbia
