Amazonc.com Who would expect a gimmick like a pair of magical pants to be the hook for such a smart, charming, and emotionally rich teen movie? Four close friends discover a pair of pants that fit them all perfectly, even though they're physically very different. Since all four are going in different directions for the summer, they pledge to each wear the pants for a week and then mail them to the next girl. In Greece, Lena (Alexis Bledel, Gilmore Girls) lands in the middle of a Romeo & Juliet family-feud romance; Carmen (America Ferrera, Real Women Have Curves) discovers that her estranged father is about to marry a blonde Southern belle; Bridget (newcomer Blake Lively) flirts with love at a Mexican soccer camp; and Tibby (Amber Tamblyn, Joan of Arcadia) stays home and gets a boring retail job to pay for her documentary film--but finds herself with an unwanted young assistant (Jenna Boyd, The Missing). These four stories manage to cover an amazing amount of ground (touching on race, body issues, divorce, mortality, and more) without resorting to stereotypes or easy resolutions. The engaging characters are brought to vivid life by these four talented actresses, who grab this excellent script and run with it. One of the best movies about teenage life in a long, long time. --Bret Fetzer

Nice but.... November 19, 2008 CAUTION: This movie is best watched in the company of friends. If not, feelings of depression and friendlessness may occur.
Upbeat and sweet September 27, 2008 While this is definitely a story for the teenagers, I found myself quite fond of this charming little movie. I enjoyed the book and found this a nice adaption. The girls are charming and fit their roles perfectly. The soundtrack is fresh and fitting. This may bug men and the cynical, but the right crowd of girls will be pleased.
Great Movie September 8, 2008 This movie is a great chick flick for girls of all ages. Lena, Tibby, Carmen, and Bridget will make you laugh and cry (and I really did cry at one point in the movie. The acting is really good, and the viewer finds themselves really involved with whats going on, and can can sympathize with at least one of the girls' situation. Its a really good movie, one to bring friends and hearts together.
Should have been a Made for TV film September 2, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants could have been a well acted, insightful movie about overcoming teenaged adversity. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Instead, the movie has all the ingredients of a fairly decent TV movie, with plenty of pause spots for commercials.
There are many reviews that describe the sub-plots of the four friends so they won't be reiterated here. In quick summary, the two emotional subplots are: parental void (deceased mother, absentee father) and fear of feeling (exposing the "real me"). These are basic, western culture, female teen age issues, and are exploited to a heightened sentimental degree.
The film isn't bad, its just that its targeted audience doesn't require good acting (see hospital bed scene), exceptional videography (entire movie), or meaningful dialogue for it to have some box office success. If it's a Friday night and your 15 year old daughter is bored, you could do worse than rent this film.
Cute, BUT.... August 1, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
NOT ONE of these cute chicks gets naked! What's the point? Magic pants? UGH
